As Simple As ABC: Tips On How To Write An Analytical Essay On A Book
When writing an analytical essay on a book is just like writing any other essay. It has all the same sections as any other essay but the steps you take to write one are a little different. These tips are the correct way to complete an analytical essay on a book.
Writing An Analytical Essay
- You first want to read the book that you’re analyzing. This way you can see all of the attributes of the book that you will use in your essay. Some students also find it easier to write the essay, if they read the book twice.
- Now you create an outline of your analytical essay. This should have four main headings. One for the introduction, one on the objective of the book, the next on the characters and the last is the positive and negative points of the book. This will help you when you go to start to write your essay.
- The intro of your analytical essay should give all of he information about the book, like the title, author, date published, a summary, and tell the reader the genre and so on.
- The objective part of your essay needs to tell the reader what message the author wanted to say in his or her book. This is most commonly known as the theme of the book but can go further, depending on your interpretation of the book.
- Now you need to look at the characters in the book. Make a list of all of them and describe their part in the story. You also want to examine their personality and how it affected the story.
- Write down all the positive and negative comments you have on the book. Remember these points need to be valid points and you have to have more information to back up why you think they are positive or negative.
- Don’t use I, in your essay because you are analyzing it not giving your opinion.
- Once you get all of the information down in your outline, then you can turn all of that into your essay. Using all of the information, write your entire essay and it is always good to use quotes from the book to get your point across. After it is written, all you have to do is proofread and edit it and then hand it in.
